Job Opportunity: Calgary Civic Symphony Concertmaster

Calgary Civic Symphony announces an opening for the position(s) of Concertmaster, commencing in the 2025-26 season. This important position would ideally be filled by one highly qualified candidate, but if circumstances require, the orchestra will consider filling the role with more than one individual.

About Calgary Civic Symphony

Founded in 1976, the Calgary Civic Symphony is one Canada’s best community orchestras, offering a professional experience for volunteer musicians, both amateur and professional, who share their love of learning and performing great symphonic music. A registered charitable and nonprofit organization, the “Civic” is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.

The orchestra is led by its Music Director & Conductor, Rolf Bertsch, who has been pianist and conductor with numerous organizations, including the Orcehstre symphonique de Montreal, the Calgary Philharmonic, and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens. He has worked with many of the world's greatest artists and conducted in the United States, Europe, China, and Japan, and all of Canada's major  orchestras.

The Civic rehearses weekly and performs 5 regular season concerts in Jack Singer Concert Hall, one of Canada’s best concert venues. Its quality has been recognized and has led to other performance opportunities. The orchestra’s concert season offers a wide gamut of interesting and challenging programming performed with commitment and enthusiasm at a remarkably accomplished level. While the Civic prioritizes offering performance opportunities for outstanding Calgary-area artists and organizations, past soloists have also included Pinchas Zukerman, Amanda Forsyth, Stewart Goodyear, Pavlo, and Isabella Perron.
